It is an October morning and chilly. You take out a frozen bag of pet food that you had stocked up at the start of football season, which is in the garage freezer, and your phone is blowing up with another pet food notification. Does yours appear on the list? This guide will take you through the key raw frozen brands the U.S. regulators have put on alert this year, will show you how to read your package, and what to do next.
Quick Answer: On October 3, 2026, the primary raw frozen goods labeled this year are of Raaw Energy, Albrights Pride and Northwest Naturals of Oma. Match the brand, bag size, lot number and best-by date on your package to the official FDA notice. When it is equal, cease feeding it, put it in a place where it cannot be accessed by pets and wildlife, and disinfect all items that it came in contact with.
Raaw Energy Dog Food Recall: What Happened and Who's Affected
Raaw Energy delivers frozen raw food to customers via its own store and customers collect their food personally. In January, FDA do-not-feed advisory notified owners to cease feeding eight lots in which Listeria, Salmonella, E. coli O157 and Campylobacter were detected. (Source: FDA) The testing started when one of the dogs became ill in Connecticut and a dog owner reported the disease to the state. The FDA had requested the company to recall the products, but by this time it had not done so. foodsafetynews
Later in May, the company extended the recall to include products manufactured between July 17 and December 23, 2025, as well as a batch of Beef and Turkey Medley that had a date of March 31, 2026. (Source: AVMA) Not all the items in that window were tested positive, but the company recalled all of it as a precaution. It also suspended all production of dog food on May 21, 2026. avmapetfoodprocessing.
The following are the people to be affected:
States: Connecticut, Delaware, Massachusetts, Maryland, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New York, Pennsylvania and Virginia. petfoodprocessing.
Size: There are over 60 varieties. abc27.
Action: It is advised that the owners should dispose the food or they should call the company back to get a refund.
An FDA warning letter to the company is also included in an industry roundup on September 23. It reports that in January 2026, an inspection revealed serious violations and that Salmonella, Listeria and Campylobacter were in unopened packages. Unless you do reside in those nine states, you are unlikely to have purchased this brand. Albright's Raw Pet Food Recall: Lot C001730 Explained
On May 6, 2026, Albright, Raw Pet Food of Fort Wayne, Indiana, recalled one lot of its Chicken Recipe for Dogs Complete and Balanced. The product is packaged in clear vacuum bags in 1-Pound frozen bricks (typically in 30-pound cases). The lot number that has been affected is C001730 and the expiration date is April 28, 2027.
Recall began with the routine sampling conducted by FDA that discovered Salmonella in one composite sample. (Source: FDA) There were no confirmed or reported illnesses as of May 6.
The lot was sold to customers throughout the country, as well as a few retailers in Massachusetts, California, South Carolina, North Carolina, Wisconsin and New York. To get a refund, you send the company a receipt and photos of the product and email it.
Frozen food has an extended shelf life, so a recall in the spring of 2013 may still be in your freezer in October. Provided you have chicken bricks that you ordered last spring, dig a package and look at it.

How to Check Dog Food Lot Codes (Step by Step)
Checking is approximately two minutes. Take the package, or an image of it, and follow the following steps:
Check brand and product name. Chicken Recipe and Chicken and Salmon are separate products.
Check the bag size. Each can be a separate case of a 1-pound brick, a 2-pound bag and a 6-pound bag.
Find the lot number and best-by date. These are typically stamped or inkjet printed somewhere on the back panel, the seal or a sticker.
Compare them with the FDA notice, character by character. A different lot is represented by one different digit.
Record your findings. Snap a photo of anything you are disposing of to have a refund or visit to the vet.
Where the Numbers Hide
The packaging that is frozen is the most difficult to write on, since frost and cold smudge ink. Allow the bag to rest at room temperature a minute and dry the label with a paper towel. Avoid letting the food thaw so as to read it.
What If the Numbers Are Missing?
A production date is used by some small makers as the batch ID. There are those who do not label their lots. In previous recalls, FDA advised owners to dispose the product in case they are unable to verify the lot. (Source: FDA) In case of any doubts, call the company with the date of purchase and pictures.
Salmonella Symptoms in Dogs (and in You)
Other dogs do not appear ill. Even without apparent illness, pets can be vectors of harmful bacteria and transmit them to the environment. That is one of the reasons that a well-groomed dog can remain a carrier of germs to your hands, your floors and your children.
The symptoms when dogs fall ill resemble a stomach bug. People are also susceptible to becoming ill and the symptoms are similar:
Dogs
People
Salmonella
Diarrhea (sometimes bloody), vomiting, fever, low energy
Nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, cramps, fever
Listeria
Similar stomach upset, fever, tiredness
Fever, headache, muscle aches, confusion, loss of balance
Listeria is the most hazardous in pregnant women, newborns, older adults and immunocompromised individuals (Source: pet food recall notices and news coverage of FDA results).
Early warning: If your dog has bloody diarrhea, turns to vomiting repeatedly, has a fever, or looks fatigued, call your vet. Old dogs and puppies can easily become dehydrated. It is not a substitute to a vet exam. To find out more about how to detect trouble early, visit our guides on pet health and wellness.
What to Do If Your Dog Ate Recalled Food
Take a breath. The majority of dogs that have consumed an unlucky lot are alright the first time, however, you ought to take immediate action and stay composed.
Immediately cease feeding it. Retain the package, or take a picture of the label and lot number.
Call your vet. This is regardless of whether your dog appears okay. Share brand, lot number, amount eaten and date.
Dispose of it in a safe manner. The FDA recommends that it be placed in a safe container which animals, including wildlife, cannot access and it should not be donated. (Source: FDA) fda
Clean all it touched. Rinse wash bowls, scoops and storage containers in hot, soapy water and sanitize. The FDA also recommends to wash your hands with soap and water at least 20 seconds. Wipe freezer shelves as well as counters. fda.
Watch your household. During a few days avoid face licks, kisses, and after handling the stool of your dog wash hands.
Request a refund and complain about the issue. Send your photos and receipt to the company. Another way that you can file a complaint is by the FDA Safety Reporting Portal.
Enquire of your vet what to feed in the meantime. Any abrupt change of food is enough to disturb a stomach, and therefore a gradual transition is normally the best. New pet owner guides will cover the basics, in case you are new to this. This fall is also a fast-moving dog health news like our article on New World screwworm in dogs.
Is Raw Dog Food Safe? A Balanced Look
The brief answer is that both the FDA and CDC recommend not feeding on raw diets and they have the statistics to back it up. The FDA refers to avoiding raw food as the best measure to avoid these infections. (Source: FDA) CDC does not also recommend raw pet food or treats to dogs and cats. (Source: CDC) fdacdc
The figures contribute to the explanation of why. In a study by FDA that was terminated in 2012, 15 out of 196 raw samples contained Salmonella and 32 contained Listeria, and compared to other types, raw food was more contaminated. (Source: FDA) fda
Raw feeders frequently cite fresher ingredients, shiny coats or an ancestral diet. According to the CDC, the fact that food is raw does not necessarily make it healthier and both raw and cooked diets can be complete and balanced or not. The danger extends not only to your dog. The elderly, individuals with compromised immunity and pregnant women are at increased risk of severe illness. cdc.
To reduce your risk of getting sick with these habits, continue by feeding raw with the following habits:
Keep food in the refrigerator, not on the counter.
Do not put it in contact with the food of humans and wash your hands after contacting it (20 seconds).
Wash dishes, tables and cutlery with dishes after each meal.
Shop in brands whose lots are clearly marked and whose track record is clean.
Enquire with your vet about the completeness and balance of the diet.
Bacteria aren't the only worry. In December 2024, Northwest Naturals recalled a raw frozen cat food, after Oregon officials reported testing detected H5N1 bird flu in it. There mainly concerns cats. klif(Source: Dallas Express report)
Use our pet nutrition and feeding guides, should you be thinking of switching. You would also want to know the true cost of a dog in the first year to change foods. Cooked or processed foods reduce the risk, but there is no risk-free type of food.
The Bottom Lines:
Raw frozen products continue to appear on regulator lists, and therefore a quick look in the freezer should be made a routine. Find the brand, size, lot number and date, discard any matching it, and disinfect the place. Bacteria are not the only worry in case cats live with you. Next, pick up our Bird Flu and Cats safety guide and keep your entire pet family safe.

Is there a Raaw Energy dog food recall right now?
Yes. Raaw Energy recalled all dog food produced between July 17 and December 23, 2025, and a March 31, 2026 batch of Beef and Turkey Medley, due to potential Listeria. It halted the production May 21, 2026. The products were shipped to nine states of the Northeast and Mid-Atlantic, therefore, check the contents of your freezer in case you had ordered them.
Is there an Albright's raw pet food recall?
Yes, on May 6, 2026, Albright recalled one lot, C001730, of its Chicken Recipe for Dogs Complete and Balanced. The frozen one pound bricks are dated April 28, 2027 and when sampled by FDA were positive with Salmonella. There were no illnesses that were verified at the time the notice was issued.

How do I check dog food lot codes on my bag?
Type the lot number and the best-by date on the back or bottom of the package and compare them exactly with the FDA notice. Check brand and name of product and size of bag also. Any difference in detail is not a part of the notice. Should the numbers not be readable, inquire of the maker.
What to do if your dog ate recalled food and seems fine?
You should stop feeding it, you should save the wrapping and call your veterinarian even when you believe that your dog is not ill. Bring the brand, lot number and amount eaten. Wipe up the residue and dispose of safely, clean bowls, scoops and counters. A bloody diarrhea or recurrent vomiting or excessive weakness are emergencies to be treated immediately.
