Valentina Johnson is a lifelong pet lover and writer who shares practical, easy to follow pet care tips for everyday owners. Her advice comes from years of raising her own pets, backed by real research and conversations with vets and trainers along the way. She's not a veterinarian, and always encourages readers to check in with one for anything serious. At the core of it all is one simple belief: every pet deserves a happy, healthy home.
So here's the honest story behind this site.
A few years back, my dog Biscuit, a scrappy little terrier mix I'd rescued from a shelter that smelled permanently like wet cardboard, stopped eating for two days straight. No warning, no obvious reason, just... nothing. I did what everyone does. I opened my laptop at 1am and started googling.
Big mistake, kind of. Half the articles I found were basically the same five sentences copied and pasted with a different headline slapped on top. The other half swung wildly between "totally normal, don't worry about it" and "get to the emergency vet right now," with nothing in between to actually help me figure out which one applied to my situation. It was exhausting, and honestly a little scary.
Biscuit turned out fine, by the way. Mild stomach thing, some rice and boiled chicken, back to begging for treats within a week. But that whole night stuck with me, and a while later I decided to build the site I wish had existed back then.
That's what USAPetSociety turned into. It's mostly about dogs and cats, since that's what I know best, though I wander into other pets when something interesting comes up. Some posts are things I've actually lived through with my own animals over the years. Others come from long conversations with vets and trainers I've gotten to know, or from reading way more research papers than any normal person really should for fun.
I'll say this plainly: I'm not a vet. I don't pretend to be one, and if anything here ever reads like medical advice, that's not the intention. Think of this place more like the friend who's already been through a lot of pet stuff and is happy to walk you through it, before you go talk to someone with an actual license.
If something here ends up helping you or your pet, even in a small way, that's the whole point of doing this. And if you ever want to argue with me about something I got wrong, or just show me a picture of your cat doing something ridiculous, the contact page is right there.
